The Friday 56 - The Harp in the South By Ruth Park

The Friday 56 is hosted by Freda over at Freda's Voice. The rules are simple:

*Grab a book, any book.
*Turn to page 56.
*Find any sentence that grabs you. (I cheat sometimes and put a little more than a sentence!)
*Post it.
*Add your post URL to the Link.
Today's Friday 56 comes from an Aussie classic - 'The Harp in the South' By Ruth Park. An Aussie classic that I am embarrassed to admit I have not yet read!! So, 'The Harp in the South' will be my next read - yay! :) I remember reading 'Playing Beatie Bow' (also by Ruth Park) when I was in high school and it was amazing - she is a truly great writer. Because 'The Harp in the South' is such a classic, I thought I would include a few of the many, many versions of cover art that it has been published with. Plus, I just love cover art! Anyway, here is my 56:

"She trotted rapidly out to the kitchen, holding an agitated conversation with herself as she went. And Grandma's nose had not lied. There was Hughie, his black brows bent downward into a solid line, concentrating on a series of sticky brown-paper bags before him,the contents of which he was measuring out into the washing-up basin." (p.56)
